Rescinded Voluntary Evacuation of Barrier Islands, Alligator Point and Bald Point

By Order of the Franklin County Board of County Commissioners, we are rescinding the Voluntary Evacuation order for all barrier islands (including St. George Island, Dog Island, Alligator Point and Bald Point), due to Tropical Storm Nicole.

11/09/2022 5:00 PM – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

Franklin County Emergency Management is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Nicole and is currently activated to a Level 2. Franklin County is currently under a TS Warning and a Surge Watch. There is still some uncertainty as to where this storm is going to make landfall. Therefore,  

A VOLUNTARY Evacuation order has been issued for all barrier islands including Alligator Point, Bald Point, Dog Island & St. George Island, Low lying Coastal Areas prone to flooding and RV Parks. This will begin at 8:00 AM. If you plan to shelter in place, please make sure all your needed supplies are on hand. This includes meds, food, water, pet supplies, etc.  

CLOSURES – Schools, County Offices and the Courthouse will be closed tomorrow and Friday.  

RE-ENTRY TAGS – If you have an old re-entry tag, it is still valid, and you do not need an updated tag. Even if it shows an expiration date. No Re-Entry Tags will be issued if the EOC is Activated. 

BEACHES – Please pay close attention to Beach flags. There is an elevated risk of Rip Current for the next several days. Large and dangerous surf is possible at area beaches. If Flags Are Red Stay Out of the Water.  

Precautionary Measures. 

This includes but is not limited to:  

  1. Secure yard items such as chairs, umbrellas, etc.  
  1. Secure Boats and Vehicles – This includes moving to higher ground if needed. 
  1. Make sure your disaster kit is ready and accessible. 
  1. Check on your elderly neighbors. 
  1. Make plans for your pets.  

Please monitor the weather closely for the next several days.

10/18/22 – Franklin County has Cancelled County Wide Burn Ban – Lanark Village Burn Ban still in place,

The Franklin County Board of County Commissioners have cancelled the Burn Ban that was issued for Franklin County on October 7th, 2022.

Although this Burn Ban has been cancelled, we are recommending if you burn outside, please use precautionary measures.  Never leave a fire unattended, make sure all fires are fully extinguished when finished & monitor winds before burning.

This burn ban can be re-implemented at any time, especially if we start to have fires that become uncontrolled.

This does not change the Lanark Village Burn Ban that is still in place.
